Since 2014 the structure of the Institute consists of two scientific departments with two experimental bases:

• Department of surface water hydrology (Head: Ing. D. Halmová, PhD.)           
  Research base for Mountain Hydrology (Head: Ing. M. Danko, PhD.)

• Department of subsurface water hydrology (Head: Mgr. Peter Rončák, PhD.)          
  Research base for Lowland Hydrology (Head: Ing. M. Gomboš, PhD.)

Institute has two organization units:

• Department of Scientific-technical information and computer networks (Head: Ing. Ivan Mészároš, PhD.);

• Economic and Administrative Department (Head: Ing. Eva Barteková).

Facilities

There are Chemical laboratory, Laboratory of surface water hydrology, Laboratory of unsaturated soil zone, Laboratory of hydrophysical soil characteristics, as well as Laboratory of transport phenomena in SPAC at the Institute. Institute is also equipped with portable technology for basic water chemical analyses, automatic observation stations, standard hydrometeorological sensors, devices for measuring soil characteristics (neutron probe, Guelph permeameter, TDR meter and equipment for undisturbed field soil sampling) and device for measuring the sap flow of trees.

Research stations

Two research bases are the integral parts of the institute. They are focused on experimental field research and are situated in Liptovsky Mikulas, and Michalovce.
